A sermon delivered on March 19, 2017, at Trinity Christian Reformed Church (Ames, IA)
In John 4:5-42, we find a story about Jesus, who in his interaction with the Samaritan woman at the well, overcomes various forms of pride (which yield the fruit of superiority) that hindered the Jews from fulfilling the calling given them by God--forms of pride that manifest themselves in our lives today--in order to accomplish the redemptive work he was sent to do. And through his words, and work, in the text, we, too, are challenged in how we relinquish our own senses of superiority for the sake of the calling of God in our lives, and in the church.
